Blockchain against deepfakes

Today, the line that separates reality from fiction is becoming increasingly thin, especially with the emergence of deepfakes. These creations, the result of advanced artificial intelligence (AI), are capable of manipulating video and audio with increasingly astonishing realism, raising concerns regarding disinformation and online security. In this context, blockchain presents itself as an innovative and promising solution to counter their spread, offering a method of verification and authentication based on transparency and immutability.

What are deepfakes?

Deepfakes are produced through artificial intelligence techniques that enable the alteration or creation of false, yet incredibly realistic content. This technology, which leverages deep learning, facilitates the overlaying of faces, manipulation of facial expressions, voice synthesis, and the alteration of existing video scenes. Despite potential beneficial applications, such as in the film industry or educational sectors, deepfakes pose serious ethical and legal questions, particularly when they are used to spread false information or for reputation attacks.
